Let's start at the beginning...
Dialogue. Writing habits. Getting published. Narrative arcs. Editing.
It’s easy to get stuck in the writing process. Just like a story, the creative process has many stepping stones from start to finish.
Where does one even begin? 🧐
(Funny you should ask…)
Here's what you can expect from this course:
Story Studio aims to inspire, educate, and empower young writers.
- ✨ Feel Inspired
- Generate a reservoir of ideas for future stories and gain a sense of momentum with your current writing projects.
- 📕 Get a writer’s education.
- Sharpen all of the tools in your writing toolkit, from plotting out a compelling arc to adding dynamic dialogue that crackles on page.
- 💪 Feel Empowered
- Write a story you’re proud to show everyone you know. We’ll include it in a beautifully printed and digital anthology!
Is this online creative writing course for you?
You will have a blast with us if:
- You’re between 12 to 17 years old.
- Your fingers are always itchy to write, write, write.
- You’re happy to spend about 3-4 hours every week getting your pen to paper, or hands to a keyboard.
- You want to peer at all the angles of the writing process. (How do I keep the swing of momentum in my plot? What makes dialogue crackle on a page? These are likely some of the questions you ponder on the regular.)
- You’re curious, kind, and respectful. We make space for voices and stories from all walks of life. It’s important to us that we lift up, support, and empower our entire creative community.
- You’re ready to have fun! We’re all about ensuring writing is a delightful business.
I'm interested! What will we do every week?
What a great question! Join our Beginner’s Bundle and here’s your itinerary…
Wednesday, January 15: Developing a Writing Habit
This week, we’ll immerse ourselves in the writing habits and routines of authors — and contemplate the benefits of a consistent writing routine.
Thursday, January 23: Character Development
This week, we’ll put the character arc under a microscope! Together we’ll develop whole and complex characters of our own for future writing projects.
Tuesday, January 28: Outlining a Story
This week, we’ll peer at different plot options for stories while breaking down the outline of a gripping novel. You will also concoct and detail a plan for a short story.
Wednesday, February 5: Building a Narrative Arc
This week, we’ll pick apart the elements of a narrative arc — and dive deeper into the plot of our stories.
Wednesday, February 12: Details, Dialogue, Point of View
This week, we’re putting the polish on our stories. Together we’ll explore how to add delightful details, engaging dialogue, and play with point of view in your stories.
Tuesday, February 18: Endings, Publishing, “What now?”
This week, we’ll answer the question of: “What next?” We’ll chat how to craft a satisfying end to your story and how to move your tale toward publication.
